Between the fore- and hindfoot areas of the foot is the Lisfranc joint complex. If you are experiencing midfoot pain, it is quite likely that you have developed a Lisfranc complex injury. This joint complex consists of bones and ligaments, and most of these injuries happen when the midfoot is excessively twisted. They can be fairly common in sporting activities like soccer or football, especially when an athlete stumbles over the top of a foot that is in a downward flexed position.

There are three types of Lisfranc injuries—sprains, fractures, and dislocations. All three have similar symptoms that include swelling, pain, bruising, and inability to bear weight. In some cases, there may be an abnormal widening of the injured foot.

If you or a loved one is experiencing any of those symptoms, come see us at Foot Specialists of Long Island so that we can provide an accurate diagnosis and determine the best treatment.
