Ballet is a magical art that truly is beauty in motion. Ballet Long Island is putting on A Midsummer Night’s Dream on May 14, 2014. This hilarious Shakespearean tale is one the whole family will enjoy and a great way to spend a spring evening in New York. If you have been having foot pain, though, a night out may be uncomfortable. Orthotics in sandals are a way to nip pain in the bud.

Orthotics are inserts for your shoes that provide extra stability, support, and cushioning for your feet. They are very effective in alleviating pain, inflammation and preventing injury. Also called arch supports, inserts, insoles, or foot cushions, there are standard, one-size fits all types that you can get at many different stores. A better option are custom orthotics, which are designed to specifically address your foot structure and problems.

If you choose to wear orthotics, it is helpful to wear shoes that have a bit extra depth and width to accommodate for them. Also, shoes with adjustable laces, buckles or straps make it a bit easier to get the orthotics inside. The first thing to do is remove the existing footbed or insole. Use that as a template to shape the store bought orthotic to the right size and shape if need be and then slip the new one right into the bottom of the shoe.

If you choose custom orthotics, they will be a perfect fit to your feet. There are styles made for sandals as well; simply discuss with Mark Gasparini, D.P.M. what it is you are looking for. The health of your feet is important, and your choice of footwear can make or break it. Orthotics help you wear your regular shoes comfortably and protect your feet from pain and injury when you are on your feet all day. They are great for athletes too!
